JLo x Inglot Highlighter review: Is it suitable for daytime wear?

Livin’ The Highlight

Illuminator Face Eyes and Body

We all know and love Jennifer Lopez, and we share the excitement of her releasing seventy new products in collaboration with Inglot. I ordered the most known product from her line, Livin’ The Highlight, a face, eyes and body illuminator. The JLo Glow is a famous term, but is this product suitable for day-to-day wear? Can we actually use it on a daily basis, or do we need a special occasion for it?

In this blog post, I will review this highlight on my pale skin, in natural light, to see if it is wearable for casual occasions. Then I share with you how it looked after six hours of wear time in natural light, both on my face and eyes. Lastly, I will add setting spray to it and make it more visible and bold to test its looks in artificial lighting, for nighttime wear. The shade I used was J201 Radiant.

Online Order: Ordered to the UK from the official website on 2nd of May, after working hours. Delivered on 8th of May in the afternoon.

Because most of us do not physically see the products, I prepared a description of the packaging:

  • Comes in a black box that has a velvety feeling
  • The jar is 6,4cm in diameter (2.51 inches)
  • The packaging is made of plastic, feels light, however, it is quite sturdy
  • The product is a powder, and on top of the holes releasing product there is a black powder puff, very soft to the touch

For my natural-light wear test, aka the day-to-day wear, I only used a hydrating cream underneath my foundation, mattifying powder and NO setting spray. The reason I did this is because not everyone uses primers and setting sprays, therefore, I wanted to see how good it looks and how it wears without them. I used both the powder puff that comes with the highlighter for the cheekbone application, and a round brush. For the eyes I used a flat small brush.

First Impressions:

  • You do not need a lot of pigment, as it gets visible on the skin very easily
  • Tiniest amount will do the job
  • Both the puff and the brush apply it beautifully, however, the puff helps in not getting the micro glitter everywhere on the face, whereas the brush spreads it more
  • It looked wearable and beautiful in natural light
  • It does not over emphasise texture (and I have very textured skin as I deal with acne and enlarged pores)
  • Gives the most flattering sheen on the skin, too delicate to be picked up by the camera, but it showed superbly at movement in the light
  • Sits beautifully on the eyes, does not leave much colour behind, but leaves the same delicate sheen of light-reflective particles
  • Beautiful on the chest as well, but definitely not as visible as on the face where makeup acts as a base underneath it
  • Looks really good on my pale skin, therefore you do not need a tan with it (as I initially believed)

6 hours later

  • Highlight on the cheekbones is still visible and very flattering
  • The highlight on the cupid’s bow above the lips, as well as the highlight on the eyelids is still visible and did not crease (which is impressive, considering I have hooded eyes)
  • On the chest the highlight spread as I wore a jacket on top. What was left was a subtle sheen spread around

After the seventh hour of wear, I used setting spray on my highlighter brush and reapplied the highlighter on the cheekbones, then used the same setting spray on my flat eyeshadow brush and made the eyes more intense as well. When used with the setting spray on the body, it shows more visible as well.

Final thoughts:

  • It looks amazing on my pale skin, and gives a healthy, glowing look during the day as well, without looking like a disco ball
  • Gives the most flattering light-reflective sheen
  • Loved it both in natural light and in artificial light, both without and with setting spray
  • Lasted all day long, in the end I wore it for ten hours and it looked just as beautiful until I removed my makeup
  • Has 18 months validity after opening, which is pretty good
  • The jar container is beautiful, and has the advantage of having its own packaging, unlike some of the other products which need a separate container to be put in
  • However, you only need the tiniest amount of product, and therefore I did not put the puff back into the jar as it would get filled with excess product
  • The puff works better than the brush on the face in my opinion as it helps to keep the product in place instead of spreading it around (the brush moves the product around more)
  • Love that you can wear it on the face, eyes and body, and I imagine in the summer would look gorgeous to apply it on shoulders as well
  • There is a worrying warning on the jar: ‘Caution: Rinse immediately if product comes into contact with eyes’, However, I wore it for hours on my sensitive eyes, and I am a contact lens wearer as well and no irritation occurred whatsoever
  • The price is reasonable for the amount of product you get, especially since you can use the illuminator on the body and eyes as well
  • I love, love, love it! If there is one product you want to purchase from Jennifer Lopez’s collection, this is it!

*** Update – 7 Months Later

I’ve been using this highlighter almost everytime I wore makeup! It makes me look healthy and well rested. I very gently use it on my cheekbones, I always use it in the inner corners of the eyes. I sometimes use a tiny bit on my cupid’s bow or under my eyebrows. It works beautifully as an eye shadow as well. The best thing about this product is that it lasts all day long.
